A red-roofed Northern Thai kitchen on the Chiang Mai–Lampang Superhighway near Doi Ti, serving northern platters, hang le curry, larb kua and many more Lanna dishes.
From a boxing-camp kitchen to a Lamphun institution
Daokanong takes its name from the Sor Daokanong boxing camp of Kru Kanong, a Lamphun boxing teacher. Our menu tells how he and his wife cooked for a growing crowd of young fighters until neighbours came to buy the food, and a small restaurant opened with the boxers as staff.
The first shop is on Charoen Rat Road in Lamphun town; Doi Ti, our second branch, sits on the Chiang Mai–Lampang Superhighway near the Doi Ti junction. Our page says Daokanong has been part of Lamphun for more than 60 years.
Larb was the dish people talked about from the boxing-camp days, made with Kru Kanong's own larb chilli. Pork larb kua is still a favourite, alongside the northern platter, hang le curry and fried chillies.

Lamphun is one of the oldest Lanna towns, going back to the Hariphunchai kingdom; to the east rise Doi Khun Tan and the Khun Tan railway tunnel on the northern line. Each of the four was shot out in Lamphun province, well away from our dining hall.

We are on the Chiang Mai–Lampang Superhighway near the Doi Ti junction, around km 63, in Si Bua Ban, Mueang Lamphun; look for the red roof and the name arch with an old samlor in front.
Lamphun, the old city of Hariphunchai, lies between Chiang Mai and Lampang, so the shop is an easy stop on that road.
Book a table or ask questions on 053 553 942 or through our LINE; Daokanong announces any festival-time days off on Facebook.
There are four Daokanong shops: the original on Charoen Rat Road in Lamphun town, this Doi Ti branch, and two in Chiang Mai (Somphet Market and Kriangkrai Mahamit, Mae Rim).
How is Doi Ti different from the town branch? Same Daokanong kitchen; the original is on Charoen Rat Road in town, while Doi Ti is on the Superhighway, handy if you are driving between Chiang Mai and Lampang.
Never eaten at Daokanong before. Where to start? Start with the northern platter, then add hang le curry and pork larb kua with sticky rice; bigger groups can add a plate of fried chillies.
